Remembering DJ Lisa Lopez : A Tribute to a Kansas City Music Maven

“Honoring the Vibrant Life and Legacy of a Beloved DJ, Mother, and Community Pillar”

In the heart of Kansas City, DJ Lisa Lopez aka Lopez-Galvan aka DJ name was “Lisa G,” was an extrovert and devoted mother of two from a prominent Latino family in the area. DJ Lisa G was a host of Taste of Tejano, a radio show that airs on Tuesdays from 7-9:30 p.m. on 90.1 FM. She illuminated the local music scene as a vibrant DJ, blending genres and rhythms to create unforgettable moments at weddings, quinceañeras and local venues. Her eclectic mix of Tejano, Mexican, and Spanish tunes with R&B and hip-hop reflected her passion for music and her dedication to spreading joy through soundwaves. Additionally, she lent her voice to the airwaves as a radio host, connecting with listeners and sharing her love for music on KKFI-FM.

Beyond her musical endeavors, Lisa Lopez – Galven was a devoted wife and mother, cherishing moments with her family and sharing in their excitement during celebrations like the Kansas Chief’s Super Bowl victory parade. Tragically, amidst the festivities the day took a dark turn as gunfire erupted claiming Lisa’s life and injuring many others. Her untimely passing has left a profound void in the Kansas City community and beyond.

Remembered fondly by colleagues, Lisa was described as an outgoing individual deeply rooted in her Catholic faith and committed to her family. Her dedication to helping others find employment and her infectious spirit made her a cherished figure among her peers. Despite her busy schedule Lisa found time to pursue her passion for music breaking barriers as one of the area’s few Latina DJs and bringing joy to countless lives.

The tragic events of that fateful day have left friends and family grappling with grief and searching for answers. As the community mourns the loss of a beloved DJ plans for a vigil or memorial are underway to honor Lisa’s memory and celebrate her impactful life. Her legacy as a selfless and compassionate individual always willing to lend a helping hand will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who knew her. A family member created a GoFundMe page [Note: If you decide to donate, consider doing so anonymously to safeguard yourself] to help.

Joe Sciara, a 59-year-old Kansas City native who was at the parade with his family, told ESPN’s Paula Lavigne that the shooting started “immediately after the last speech” at the rally.

Lisa’s brother Beto Lopez, reflected on her life with deep sorrow emphasizing the senselessness of her untimely passing. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled yet her spirit of generosity and kindness will endure as a beacon of light in the midst of darkness. In the wake of this tragedy, the Kansas City community stands united in remembrance of DJ Lisa Lopez a shining star whose light will never dim.

The shooting broke the celebratory mood on Valentine’s Day as Chiefs fans marked their third Super Bowl title in five seasons.

Wednesday February 14, 2023 parade was the latest sports celebration in the U.S. to be marred by gun violence, following by a shooting that injured at least 10 people last year in downtown Denver, Colorado after the Nuggets‘ NBA championship, and gunfire last year at a parking lot near the Texas Rangers‘ World Series championship parade
